The MFRC supports military spouses and veterans by offering a range of free options for learning French or English.
You want to learn French
The MFRC offers three-hour French classes, held once or twice a week depending on your level. Classes take place during the day (usually in the morning) at the MFRC. New sessions start at several points throughout the fall and winter.
The LRDG self-study program lets you learn French or English independently, at your own pace. It offers a complete learning path made up of 16 modules aligned with the government of Canada’s A, B, C language levels.
The Government of Quebec offers free full-time and part-time French courses. Please note that the wait times for these courses can be several weeks, or even a few months. Click the Francisation Québec for more information or the complete the registration form.
Our conversation workshops are designed for learners with an intermediate or advanced level of French. They provide a friendly and relaxed space to practice speaking. They are held at the MFRC every week in the morning.
Mauril is a free app for learning French and English, developed by CBC/Radio-Canada and funded and endorsed by the Government of Canada. The app uses 100% Canadian shows and podcasts to sharpen your listening skills while providing a cultural and linguistic immersion. You want to learn English
Online classes are two hours long and are held once a week, either during the day or in the evening. New sessions begin in September, January, and March. There is a $50 fee, which is refundable under certain conditions.

You want to learn another language
The Rosetta Stone self-study program is offered exclusively to military family members who wish to learn a language other than French or English in preparation for a posting outside of Canada (OUTCAN).
Kids and youth (OUTCAN)
Children and youth under 18 years of age who need to maintain their French or English language skills are eligible to receive a license for the self-directed Rosetta Stone for Kids program during a posting outside of Canada (OUTCAN).
